In First Flight we do lots of different activities during reading time to practise our alphabet sounds, sight words, blends and chunks of sound and letter formation. Today in Kopukapuka the children were magic writing their weekly words, doing a 'ch' blend hunt, and practising the 'all' word family. Toe Toe were having fun playing sight word and alphabet matching games, listening to stories on the iPads and practising their sight words on mini whiteboards. Great work guys!

Kiwi Can
Once a week all classes go to the Kiwi Can programme. Kiwi Can is a life skills programme which teaches values such as integrity, team work and responsibility. It is a very active programme incorporating fun, energising games and activities which are based on the value they are learning about.
Todays session was about goal setting and team work. The children played a fun game where they had to hold hands in a circle and move a hoop around the circle without disconnecting. Great team work guys! This game was tricky!

Rotation Fun
First Flight are doing rotations of different activities every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Each group spends 2 afternoons with each of the First Flight teachers and explore different curriculum areas. Mrs Plane is taking science, Mrs Absalom is taking visual art, Mr Silby is taking Te Reo Maori and Miss McGovern is taking music.
This week Miss McGovern's group made Rain Makers, Mrs Absaloms group made pattern flowers, Mr Silby's group learned about body parts in Te Reo, and Mrs Plane made volcanoes in science.
Wonderful Writing
We have some fantastic writers in Kopukapuka who love to write interesting stories. Here is some of the stand out writing from Tuesday.
I went to Rotorua and I went to the park and I went to Te Puia too. I went to the hot pools and when I was at the park I got a face paint and then we went back to the park and we had dinner at the park. We had fish and chips. After that we played on the park again and then we went home again. When we got home we played line up 4 and went to sleep. By Nivea
I have a head band at home and my baby played and my sister played with my head band. My baby liked playing with my headband. By Belinda
I like motor bikes because they are fast. I very much like motor bikes and their engines are very loud. They are so powerful too and they're so noisy and I don't know where the tank is. You can't see the exhaust in cars or motor bikes. By Zeth
Ka Pai guys, awesome writing!
Maths in First Flight
First Flights Maths focus for the next few weeks is Algebra. We have been learning about making and describing shape and number patterns.
Today Kopukapuka practised making patterns with different materials and made pattern snakes with coloured paper. We described our patterns to each other and predicted the next shape in the sequence.
